Last Friday, I drove to Dallas for an interview with a corporate lawyer, Courtney Luster, who is with Sidley LLP as a lawyer who focuses on private equity and mergers and acquisitions.
I started the interview by asking how she got started in law. She gave me a story about her unique journey into law which started with her being an English teacher who then went to law school. This was a very inspiring story because it showed me that everyone takes a different path to reach their dream career.
I then asked her about what a typical day looks like for her as a private equity and mergers and acquisitions lawyer. She explained her day-to-day life, and how busy her schedule is when a deal is about to close.
We wrapped up by talking about what she has learned on the job which she didn't know right out of law school. She gave me lots of advice about what to expect from law school and applying for law firms in the summers while in school. This advice was extremely helpful for my future adventures with attending law and life as a future lawyer.
I am very thankful for all of the information she gave me, and this will all positively contribute to my primary research assessments and original work.
