Last week, I worked on preparing myself for my upcoming business symposium, where I will go with other ISM students to learn and meet local business professionals.
In order to prepare for this, I created a one minute elevator pitch about myself and my interests of corporate law. In this elevator pitch, I had to start off by describing myself in a way that is memorable and unique, and then I had to go through my personal experiences and skills that align with the corporate law field.
Besides the elevator pitch, I practiced interviewing professionals with a list of 15 questions that I had already created the week before. When created these questions, I focused on making them general enough for any working person to be able to answer, but I made them specific enough to allow for a natural progression of conversation to occur. I also practiced preparing myself to ask follow-up questions that could occur from the conversation, and I practiced being able to answer any questions they had for me.
This experience and training have allowed me to become more comfortable with speaking and interviewing others. It has also allowed me to think more creatively as to how I will be able to pitch myself in a way that allows me to stand out from the other ISM students who will also be in attendance.
