This week I began my professional journey by creating a digital profile and LinkedIn account in order to connect with possible mentors within the near future. This process allowed me the opportunity to share my passion for corporate law in a creative way by personalizing a website that showcases my personality and goals for the ISM program. It also allowed me to express myself by creating a LinkedIn profile where I could describe more about my personality in relation to corporate law and any past experience I have had in the workforce or volunteering. My goal for next week is to dive deeper into the research of the intricacies of corporate law. I want to begin to uncover more information about the different levels of legal work that go into operating a corporation. I want to research different contracts needed for different types of corporations such as for-profit hospitals or for hotel brands such as Hilton. These companies need to have contracts to hire their employees, to conduct business deals, or to work within the bounds or laws of the state or federal government. I also want to do more research to see how corporate law coincides with international law due to global companies, and how companies are able to create legal teams that are able to make sure that the company is not only working legally on the national level but also internationally.
The Complexities of the World of Corporate Law
This week I was focused more on researching the intricacies of corporate law. I was able to find numerous articles that describe what big things are going on in the world of corporate law. I annotated three different articles over different sub-subjects such as a case where America First Legal filed lawsuits against big corporations because they felt that their diversity initiatives were actually discriminatory and another article was about how the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's decision to change patent challenges will affect AI innovation for companies like Google. After doing investigations over different events that are happening in the corporate law world, I came across an article about Elon Musk's company, SpaceX, being sued by the United States Department of Justice for discriminatory employment practices that are meant to discourage or deny asylees or displaced persons from apply for jobs at SpaceX. The DOJ belives that this violates the Immigration and Nationality Act which was established in 1986. Spacex believes that their practices falls within the International Traffic in Arms Regulations which are meant to protect sensitive weapon security, and SpaceX believes that only hiring natural born Americans helps protect information. These arguemsn made by both sides have help me better understand that corporate law can also be interwined with other types of law such as federal law and employment law, which means that it is useful for me to have a well rounded understanding of a lot of different types of law to help myself with corporate law. After fully comprehending and annotating that article, I wrote a 500 word essay which went into depth over describing the implications of this case and how it will better my understanding of corporate law as a whole. My goal for next week is to use some of the knowledge that I have obtained through reading these articles and apply it to some of the other research I will be conducting over corporate law.
